Gniewomir Gościrad served as the governing authority of Koraviec during the prolonged period of unrest later named the Years of Lament, a near-decade marked by repeated incursions from the outlaw faction known as the Zabójcy Cieni. His leadership coincided with the strengthening of relations between the city and the resident vampire coven, to which he was notably receptive.
Historical accounts indicate that Gościrad played a direct role in the establishment and fortification of the coven's presence within Koraviec. During the height of the attacks, he authorised the conversion of several wounded or dying civilians into vampires, a decision widely credited with bolstering the city's defensive capabilities. His cooperation with the coven extended beyond necessity, reflecting a degree of trust uncommon for a human authority of his time.
Following the eventual withdrawal of the Zabójcy Cieni, Gościrad presented a ceremonial token of gratitude to the coven's leadership. Contemporary descriptions note that this token bore the image of a serpent, mirroring the city's emblem at the time, and was intended to represent the collective appreciation of Koraviec's people.
Descriptions of Gościrad's character are inconsistent but broadly agree upon a defining duality. He is described as both remarkably perceptive and , at times, imprudently bold. his combination appears to
have contributed directly to the circumstances of his death.
In the aftermath of the outlaws' retreat, Gościrad reportedly authorised a pursuit operation against a suspected remnant group located in a nearby village. Despite prior advisement to maintain heightened defensive measures, he is believed to have acted with reduced caution, likely influenced by the perceived decline in threat. The operation proved to be a deliberate trap. Gościrad was captured by the outlaws, who intended to use him as leverage to draw out the coven's primary defender. Unbeknownst to them, said individual was no longer present within Aegisguard at the time.
By the time communication reached the coven, Gościrad had already been executed. No opportunity was afforded to intervene or to preserve his life through conversion.
His death is regarded as a significant loss, both politically and strategically, and serves as a cautionary example of overextension in the wake of temporary victory.
